Bellingham is a small city of around 70,000 people. Bellingham has its own University (Western Washington University) and is 146 km North of Seattle Washington, and 82 km South of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. |
Sometimes we ride on our own, and sometimes we take a friend or two. |
We unloaded our bikes and prepared for our ride at the Galbraith Lane parking lot. |
|
We started the ride up the Pipeline Road, a steady uphill climb 3 or 4 km. |
Our first single-track trail was Cedar Dust, a wooded level trail (about 1km) with bridges, twists, lots of tree roots, and a few stunts. |
|
We climbed up a logging road for another 2 km in search of SST, our next planned single-track adventure. SST is a local favorite, a fast downhill trail with LOTS of stunts, trees, wet roots and rocks. The big drops all have work-arounds for tamer riders. At speed the stunts flow together, making a fun but challenging ride. |
A short ride from the bottom of SST leads to "The Ridge" trail, with beautiful views of Bellingham Bay, the City of Bellingham, and Canada to the North. The trail is a gently descending single-track, with some tricky spots containing roots, rocks, and ruts. |
Our final trail was Miranda, which switchbacks steeply through thick forest, down from The Ridge. The Miranda trail starts with a brutally tight switchback at the top and then passes several drop offs down to the bottom and the end of our ride. Looking back up The Ridge. A friend of ours once fell off the cliff to the right! (he’s ok now) |
A nice cold beer, what better way to end a nice day of riding in the Pacific Northwest! |
